"Fruit Ice Cubes and Potions"
On Thursday afternoon, O.R. and P.C. were looking through the science activity book and came across one of the pages describing lemon ice cubes. Owen was sharing how fun it would be to have different kinds of fruit in the ice cubes. The educator offered that they could make ice cubes on Friday afternoon using molds and ice cube trays. The group agreed to have raspberries, blueberries, lemons, limes, and mangoes for ice cubes. The next day; on Friday afternoon each of the children were given a chance to fill up the ice cube tray with fruit, a little bit of paint and water.
On Monday afternoon, O.R, N.S, T.E, E.C, E.P, and E.S all sat together at the table ready to mix ingredients together. First they put a bit of glittery water in each other's trays, sprinkling salt into different holes and baking soda into vinegar.
What do you think happened next?
A reaction happened, the children watching it fizz; overflowing the jars and exploding like a volcano. The strawberry and blueberry cubes broke apart when pouring vinegar and baking soda on top of them. Next, they used eye droppers to carefully drop into the trays with glitter and water to see the reaction of the shimmer.
I wonder how else they can explore this idea?
