Art and the Outdoors…

Earlier this month we were gifted a new picnic table from Leila! This gift along with the warmer weather created the perfect opportunity to bring some of our indoor play outside. A big interest lately has been exploring various art materials, so we decided to bring some art outside! We started by taking out some chalk for our chalkboard. The children made various marks with the chalk across the board. ‘M’ wiped his hand across the chalkboard. We wondered if he was trying to erase the marks. We grabbed some sponge brushes and water to test this theory. ‘M’ along with the other children brushed the wet brush across the board. “WOW!” ‘E’ said as she seemed to notice the chalk disappearing. ‘R’ attempted to use the chalk on the wet board but noticed the marks were different. “Oh no!” ‘R’ said as he continued to make marks with the wet chalk.

Next we brought out some paper and markers for the children to explore. ‘H’ opened and closed the lid of his marker, concentrating on lining up the lid with the marker. ‘My’ brought his paper and marker over to the fence and created marks and he watched the traffic. I wonder if he was drawing the different vehicles?

Our latest art experience outside has been plasticine! The children sat and used different tools to cut and poke their plasticine. We plan to add some natural tools such as sticks and pinecones to our plasticine. Stay tuned to see what art medium we explore next!
